July: Month in review

So we had a very fun July. Went down the shore, got the air conditioner fixed in the house, bought a new mattress and headboard (I LOVE craigslist!), and I started working from home. Silas definitely had a month of milestones: he started solids (mainly cereal, we're working up to being more regular with bananas and carrots), he sprouted his first 2 teeth, he seems to have his first little cough-type cold, and he starting now to sit up! Next month I hope to have the trim and doors painted white upstairs, the downstairs powder room painted, and curtains put up. I'm looking forward to having a washer & dryer here also, thanks Nick! Looking forward to August :)

We Have Teeth!!

Ok so my post is a little bit late, but we have teeth! I woke up with the baby last Saturday 7/18 and when he was chewing on my finger, which he regularly does, it actually hurt!! Sure enough, when I was able to pry his mouth open and look inside (a process which took about 10 minutes) there was a definite tooth popping out! About 3 days later, his dad noticed the next one coming in also. The pics below are of the next day with just the 1 tooth.
So we had a pretty fun weekend. Paul wasn't working this weekend so that was nice and he volunteered ;) to get up with the baby so I could sleep in a little bit on Saturday. We got a few things done around the house went to Home Depot to get the flooring tiles, and stopped by Musser Park in Lancaster so I could take some practice shots for my photo shoot with an 8 month old on Tuesday (which I'm a bit nervous about). After that we went to mom and dad's to do laundry and watch home movies of Markie when he was 5 months old--much chunkier than Silas and was also a baldy!
Then yesterday I got up with the baby, we unfortunately never made it to church. Sidenote: we need a babysitter to watch him while we check out churches around here. Then mom came over and we worked on the hallway/bathroom/pantry floor. We still need to finish two small spots today.
So, we did get a few things done. Next weekend's possible projects: landscaping, completely getting rid of the still-packed boxes upstairs, and hanging anything else up on walls. Curtains would be nice one of these days. :)

Where Should I Spend my summer?

Ok, so I don't normally take these mundane little quizzes online, but this one was a little interesting and I'll earn a sweet reward point for it from my favorite online digital scrapbooking place! So here are my results:

You Should Spend Your Summer in the City

You're a trooper, and the summer heat doesn't really get to you.

So you rather stay in the city, where you can sip iced lattes and go to midnight movies.

Forget the beach! You rather be where the good restaurants and stores are.

Usual Friday

So Silas is sleeping, unfortunately this is around the time when he goes down for the night and he just fell asleep around 5:45p. I'll have to get him up to play and eat around 7:30p that way he'll have a decent night's sleep. It was actually better for me, I was able to make some calls, one of which resulted in an MQ. Paul is usually home and watches him during the "sweet time" of the night, but he's at Pops' house since he's working tomorrow. The only bad thing about him getting this job at Citizens is that he'd have to work on Sundays, hopefully not every Sunday at least.

Tomorrow is Mom's birthday and I get to celebrate with her and her free meal (hehe) at the Shady Maple. Even more exciting, we're going to go yard sale-ing tomorrow. Yay! I am a yard sale queen since moving out here. Silas' mobile and formula pitcher ($1 ea. brand new) were only 2 of the amazing deals I've gotten at yard sales. I was worried that they only have them out here in the spring, but they quite literally have 60 or so different yard sales every weekend during the warm months.

Anyway, here is my favorite pic of Silas today. He loves laying on his belly in the boppy. He can hold his head up to watch tv and he also likes to grab the toys/washclothes/burp rags/anything we put in front of him (to go directly into his mouth of course). He gets himself all riled up to the point where he pushes himself off the edge of the boppy. Most of the time it makes him upset. To my suprise, I walk into the living room and he's just laying there like this:

And yes, if you were wondering, he was just staring off into space! He's so funny.

First Time Blogging

Ok, so I'm addicted to reading other people's blogs so I figured - what the heck! Let's try it out for myself and see if it sticks. Hopefully it's not one of those things where I get really into it and then completely stop. I hate when I do that!

So we just moved to Ephrata and it was a bit stressful in the beginning to say the least. We were kinda taking a leap of faith because we knew we didn't want to raise Silas near or around the city, and I certainly didn't want to continue working in North Philly. I did make great money there, but money is definitely not everything.

I just recently started a job from home where I'm taking applications for a rental/financing company in Lancaster. We'll see how much I make doing this. Paul figured out that I made about $70 yesterday, which would be stretching it for us. If not, in the fall I know I can find a preschool/daycare teaching job that pays hourly and then I can bring the baby with me.

In other news, Paul had an interview with Citizens yesterday and he said it went really well. His commute would be MUCH shorter, literally half of what he's commuting now to Brisol everyday. Plus he'd be the assistant branch manager, so that also looks good on a resume.

But obviously my favorite subject to talk about is Silas! He's almost 5 months already, sitting up for a good 30 sec - 1 min. all by himself, gobbling up rice cereal, starting carrots and bananas, sleeping through the night, wearing mostly 6-9 month clothes, gib gabbering all over the place, laughing at various odd things (like the playtex drop ins bottles when we shake them, though only when they're about 1/2 full LOL), obviously I could go on and on! :)

Well he's napping right now and there are bottles all over the downstairs so I'd better clean up.
